Welcome to Meeting House Kennels and Cattery

About us - a history lesson
Meeting House Kennels has been in the possession of the Heard family since 1956 when it was purchased by Kath Heard, who was a great lover of dogs and cats. She quickly built up a good reputation for the care given to the animals entrusted with her.

Kath was a well-known and highly respected breeder and show judge of dalmations with which breed she acquired a worldwide reputation. She was one of the first people to understand the behavioural aspects of handling dogs and passed on her skill and knowledge in relating to and training dogs to her nephew, Peter, who spent a lot of his early years at the kennels with her.

When she died the kennels became the property of Peter who remains the owner/resident today. Peter's great passion is for working dogs and in particular red setters. He is an acknowledged expert in the handling of working gun dogs. He is a long-standing member of the Kennel Club and a panel judge in Field Trials.

Since taking over the running of the business Peter has had the dog and cat homes extensively rebuilt and modernised. For him the well-being of all the animals in his care is of paramount importance, and all the staff are trained to that end.  He is also keen to help out East Herts District Council in providing temporary accommodation for dogs and cats that need to be re-homed.

Meeting House Kennels and Cattery is the longest established kennels in Hertfordshire.
